What are fleets?​

  • Fleets are a group of devices that share the same authentication method, certificate chain and Shadow.

What do I need to create my first fleet?​

Creating a Fleet is the first thing you need to do to onboard a device onto our platform. It takes 3 easy steps:

  1. Decide on a Fleet Name, Add a description if you’d like

  2. Define a Device Provisioning Policy

    • This will decide how your devices connect and authenticate to Golain

    • The Managed option entails that your devices use certificated provided by us

  3. Define a Device Shadow for your initial device to use

    • Device Shadows are control plane datapoints that you can use to interact with and control your devices from the platform or at the edge via BLE Mesh.

  4. Optionally : Define other policies such as OTA Updates, User Association, Remote Diagnostics, Notifications, and Alerts - all of these can be setup later as well.

Devices​

Device creation is similar to fleet creation on the web dashboard:

  1. Decide a device name

  2. Attach it to a fleet and pre-defined policy

  3. Attach it to a Shadow

  4. Lastly define Data Points
